Welcome to the Sweet Soul Choir


We’ve been performing uplifting music in Victoria and on Vancouver Island for more than 20 years! Led by the dynamic Checo Tohomaso, we deliver a vibrant mix of Motown, Soul, R&B, and Soul Gospel. Cool choreography is also part of our stage shows.

Spring Concert

Our Spring concert is on Saturday, April 25th, and we titled it MotownSoul & Friends.

“Friends” is more than a word. It refers to the many offshoots and extended family of Rhythm n’ Blues, from the Church to the Jukebox to the Spotify playlist — all connected, like good neighbours. We are all Friends, sharing this community of great music.

We’re also helping a worthy cause. Threshold Housing Society provides youth in Greater Victoria who are homeless or at risk, with housing, support, and understanding.

Don’t miss out on this celebration of music that truly reminds everyone of happy times! Get your tickets right away as seating is limited.

It’s happening on Saturday, April 25th, in the beautiful Oak Bay United Church. Doors open at 7:00 pm, with open seating.

Sing with Us

We bring singers of all ages and walks of life together. No audition is necessary.

Our Spring Season is well underway as we prepare for our April concert. We are meeting at 111 Superior Street (Church of Truth) across from Fisherman’s Wharf in James Bay. If you’d like to join our wonderful community, send us an email, or just drop in to one of our Workshops or Rehearsals and check us out. Drop-in fees for Rehearsals with Checo are $15.00, and Workshops are $10.00. College students get a 50% discount. Check-in starts at 5:30 pm, and we sing from 6:00 till 8:00 pm.

Meet Our Director, Checo Tohomaso

Our enthusiastic director, Checo Tohomaso, has performed all around the world with notable performers like Marvin Gaye, Lionel Richie, and the Commodores

After his performance at Expo ’86, Checo decided to settle in Vancouver, BC. He now travels back and forth to Victoria to bring that authentic Motown sound to our choir.
