Welcome to the Sweet Soul Choir

We’ve been performing uplifting music in Victoria and on Vancouver Island for more than 20 years! Led by the dynamic Checo Tohomaso, we deliver a vibrant mix of Motown, Soul, R&B, and Soul Gospel. Cool choreography is also part of our stage shows.

JazzFest Concert

The Choir performed on Sunday, June 21st (Father’s Day) in Beacon Hill Park, for the TD International Jazz Festival. We had an audience of 400 revellers, thrilled by our cool choir in red and white—“Souls singing Soul.” We made new friends, rekindled connections, and set in motion a return engagement for the Victoria Jazz Society in 2027.

Meet & Greet Singalong

This is a fun get-together for choir members and prospective members at our 111 Superior Street. It’s on Tuesday, June 30th. Check-in is 5:30 pm and we’ll sing from 6:00 pm till 7:30 pm. It’s a free event for all!

To wrap up the evening, participants are invited to join us at Heron Rock Bistro.

Sing with Us

We bring singers of all ages and walks of life together. No audition is necessary.

Our Fall Season starts on Tuesday, September 15th, 2026. We practice in a lovely little church at 111 Superior Street across from Fisherman’s Wharf in James Bay. If you’d like to join our wonderful community, send us an email, or just drop in to one of our Workshops or Rehearsals.

Drop-in fees for Rehearsals with Checo are $15.00, and Workshops are $10.00. College students get a 50% discount. Check-in is at 5:30 pm, and we sing from 6:00 till 8:00.

Meet Our Director, Checo Tohomaso

Our enthusiastic director, Checo Tohomaso, has performed all around the world with notable performers like Marvin Gaye, Lionel Richie, and the Commodores

After his performance at Expo ’86, Checo decided to settle in Vancouver, BC. He now travels back and forth to Victoria to bring that authentic Motown sound to our choir.
